Foliate Oak Literary Magazine

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

We will reopen for submissions later in July.  May 1 we plan to post our final issue of this semester.  September 1 we should have our next issue out, so we hope you return to submit your work for that issue in July.

Thank you for your great submissions!  We are reading the last of the submissions and will be contacting everyone regarding the final decision by April 30.

Note: Instead of withdrawing your submission to make revisions or e-mailing us to inform us that one poem was accepted, please click Edit on Submittable, which is next to withdraw, and request that we make your submission editable.

If you are going to use a pen name, please  use your pen name on all correspondence. One name per submission makes our lives much simpler.

Guidelines:

We love previously unpublished quirky writing that makes sense, preferably flash fiction (less than 1000 words). We are eager to read short creative nonfiction also. We rarely accept submissions that have over 2700 words. We enjoy poems that we understand, preferably not rhyming poems, unless you make the rhyme so fascinating we’ll wonder why we ever said anything about avoiding rhymes. Give us something fresh, unexpected, and will make us say, “Wow!” We’re not interested in homophobic, religious rants, or pornographic, violent stories.

We are always interested in publishing intriguing photography, artwork, and graphic (you know, comics) literature.   Send all artwork as jpg or gif.  We like to have at least three images.

If you'd like to read your work on You Tube, send us the link.

Please wait one year to resubmit after we have published your work.

Please wait 60 days to resubmit after we have rejected your work.

Always include a short (less than 50 words) third person bio.  Please send no more than One prose selections and no more than Three poems. Wait until your hear from us before you send more work. If your work is accepted by another publication, please  notify us immediately.

We are unable to pay for work. If the work we have posted is later used in another magazine, we ask that you credit Foliate Oak for first publishing it. Authors retain their own rights and copyright to their works. Foliate Oak only requests one-time, nonexclusive rights. Work will remain archived indefinitely, unless author/artist ask that it be removed from our website.

Submission Period:  August 1 -April 15. We do not read submissions during summer break.

We are not producing a print issue this year.

We do not reprint work published elsewhere, in any form.
